Gradient mesh, doesn’t always work the same way

 

This is important, the gradient mesh does not always behave in  the same manner. If your artwork is at an angle, the mesh divides on the angle, if you start out at RIGHT angles, it divides along those same right angles. Being that a gradient mesh becomes unwieldy, fairly quickly, it’s probably a good idea to start out in as simple and as organized fashion as possible. The problem with the 45° angle divisions is that all the control points and handles are rotated to the same degree, and it makes shading objects in a predictable fashion almost impossible.
